The modern balada is the product of centuries of evolution. The term “ballad” was first used to describe a type of narrative poem set to music. In Latin America, ballads can be traced back to the High Middle Ages when Spanish troubadours sung ballads of courtly love and chivalry, although sometimes they tell the story of a famed hero or infamous criminal. Common ballad themes range from heartache and need to love, loss, and inspiration; but they all have one thing in common: they are deeply sentimental songs. The Baladas station is Batanga’s take on this historically-important genre, playing classics from some of our top stations and genres including boleros, oldies, mariachi, and mexicana, plus modern ballads from pop, salsa, tropical, rock, and Radio Brasil. Grab a tissue and tune in. Canciones románticas que llegan al corazón.
