With its drums and clave-based rhythm, this genre varies from region to region. In Argentina, cumbia villera is most prevalent while Peru and Chile have also adopted the genre, and Mexico has fully embraced it with open arms. Mexico’s interpretation, cumbia sonidera, is best-known in the US, but it’s Colombia’s original rhythmic accordion and clave-heavy brand that has emigrated to the rest of the world.
