About Salsa

“Salsa” is a catch-all term that describes a diverse and culturally saturated variety of rhythms which hold root primarily in the Cuban son and mambo. The grand influx of Cubans to America in the’60s paralleled with a large Puerto-Rican immigration that brought native rhythms like plena and bomba, created a sound that echoed the life of its birthplace: New York City. This dense genre navigates through mambo, cha-cha-chá, son, rumba and guaracha making it the most popular tropical music form in the world. Batanga’s Salsa station offers “old school” salsa from the golden era of FANIA, ’80s salsa romántica, and new-school salsa from many Colombian and Venezuelan groups. Batanga Salsa serves the most sabrosura and alboroto from New York, Miami, South America and the Caribbean. ¡Suéltate rumbero y ven a bailar!
